AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY MUSIC
BROADCASTERS HALL OF FAME
Maurie Huxley inductee 2006
At an early age Maurie was struck down with a disabling affliction of his
legs so he was unable to attend normal schooling. His mother enrolled him in
correspondence lessons through the school of the air Pt Pirie. This changed
his life as he became interested in radio, making his own crystal sets and
progressing to valve radios. This interest put him in a good position to
take up a career with the old PMG for 40 years.
In 1983 he did a Christian spot for 5PBA at Salisbury. He was offered
"Saturday Country" as well. From these two early programs we have the
mix today of 712 presentations to air on Coast FM. Maurie was invited to
join this station in 1990, when the station was setting up, doing test
broadcasts and looking for formats.
Your listeners and supporters, and members and management of Adelaide's
Coast FM thank you for many hours of listening pleasure.
